We should at a minimum have a link to CyberBoard v3 (if used) and to Dale's web site. Other links would be needed to Company Support sites and maybe some sites that will help advertise (for free) CBDO. Alan over at Web-Grognards may help. I don't know if BoardGameGeeks would give free adverts or not but that may help bring in some non-wargame designs. ConsimWorld will surely help with news but what about a banner?

Definitely have the CB and publisher support links. I believe Fritz is in touch with Alan but I'm not sure he'd considered BGG - good call.
Do you know if there are typical banner dimensions? Will the website heading be suitable? If not, Natasha can produce something as long as we specify.

I've emailed Alan Poulter for prices and banner sizes; couldn't see where the 'geek would place a banner. I'll be sending out personal invites to alot of clubs; hopefully they'll post our banner. The news at CSW and the FYI I plan to do along with announcement on 30th when we post to all the groups and folders, etc. as well as seeing if John Kranz will let us become a "convention" in the CSW folder. Probably the best thing we can do to get overseas links is fly flags, and Andy has done a nice job of this at CBDO. Included in the "personal" invites will be a mention of this Forum and an encouragement to bilinguals to help out with translation *HERE* at the Forum; sort of an Olympic Village, if you will. I'd ask Skip Franklin, Chris Fawcett, and Walt O'Hara just what you did to get links all over the world. Seriously. F2

How about links to existing gamebox sites, such as Yankee Air Pirates ? This might give ideas to budding designers.
Also links to any existing tools to aid designers.

Welcome onboard Chris (Pardon the pun). We will include links to other sites - though we may differentiate between 'associated' sites and others. YAP will be in there one way or another.
The idea on the tools is a good one. If you have any such links send them my way.

The only tools I know of are the two on Dale Larson's page, where incidentally the link to Bill Gustafson's utilities is no longer valid. Valid links are : GTL Text Editor home.nc.rr.com/afishe/GTLTextEditor/Bill Gustfson's Cyberboard utilities alumnus.caltech.edu/~billg/games/games.htmlBut surely there must be some designers out there who have thier own tools which they could make available to the community.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for those. Except for emergencies I intend taking the day off from site maintenance today but I'll make the links vailable from the main site tomorrow. In themeantime people can use the ones you've kindly provided above.

On-Line gamestores may be a good place to go. I can compile at least 6 links like CoolGamesLtd, BoulderGames, and others. I can post here.

Fritz,
Do you want links to be a 'reward' for support or available to all. My preference is for the former. Partly due as a thank you to those that get involved and partly to limit the amount of work I do on the site. With the first point more important than the second.

I think that putting links to publishers and stores can be a good way of reassuring people that CB (and CBDO) is not just there to take away sales!
Obviously, those that give active support should be made more prominent, but I don't think we should exclude anyone just because they don't support CBDO.
There can be several categories for links, for example: - Supporting publishers - Supporting stores - Other publishers - Other Stores (difficult to know when to stop here) - Useful sites (CB v3 beta 7, tools, ...) - Various forums where you can chat with other designers (though we want them to do that here) - etc

The Links page is opening rather slow... By allowing the use of copyright a publisher is supporting CBDO - a wider variety of GB's. Level of support can change, too Our official policy is not to sell anything, but if you can add pages ("owing to unexpected enthusiasm and slow loading times, Links are now split into...A, B, & C") as Christopher suggested, and everyone's happy except Andy, who has to do all the work. So, Andy: CBDO NEEDS a webmaster (and his faithful server), not a Boss. You call it F2

I'll make it a matter of priorities. I'll add the others as and when I get time. Thing is that as soon as the holidays are over the time spent on maintaining the site is going to drop off significantly - remeber how hard it was to get me started Fritz?! The biggest worry is actually the foreign language sites. The more we get the more the effort adding them and then maintaining them - but we'll see.
Andy
PS LYG will take priority tomorrow.

Quick word on links: we're being noticed alot from a few links, namely Web Grognards, Limey Yank Games, Privatewars, and Strategikon. Any visitors who'd like reciprocal links just ask Andy - it does work. F2
